Freshers week was made even more wonderful yesterday, as my Fashion Journalism course babes and I ventured to the Bowes Museum in County Durham to see the highly anticipated Yves Saint Laurent exhibition. The 'Style is Eternal' exhibition pays tribute to Yves Saint Laurent himself and his sensational designs which he brought to life throughout his career.
It was my first visit to the Bowes Museum, and it was mind blowing to see how beautiful it was!
The five themes which are explored throughout the exhibition are;
- Haute Couture
- Art
- Masculin-Feminin
- Spectaculaire
- Transparence
It was simply amazing to see how Yves Saint Laurent worked and how quick he was at putting his ideas and inspirations on paper. We got to see videos and interviews, as well as sketches and the materials he used. It was enough to make you want to pick up a pencil and sketch away.
The white suits above are toiles from Saint Laurent's rive gouche collections, complete with sequin embroidery. Yves Saint Laurent designed the Le Smoking tuxedo for women in the sixties. This was an empowering movement, which enabled women to have the option to dress more masculine with a feminine flair.
Here below are some photographs which I took of the different themes.

Transparance
The exhibition will come to a close on the 25th October, so you still have plenty of time to visit! What a pleasure and overall great experience to see Yves Saint Laurent's creations, it is a must see for anyone who loves fashion and design!
Have you visited Bowes? If so, let me know what you thought by posting a comment.
